Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre combines dance, acting and lip-syncing (sometimes even singing!) to bring storytelling to life.  From Broadway classics to modern hits, our Musical Theatre classes teach dancers to embody a wide range of characters and are so much fun!

We follow the Asia Pacific Dance Association (APDA) syllabus for our Musical Theatre classes, a performance syllabus that has been created to:

  • Build performance confidence

  • Develop understanding of dramatic role-playing

  • Teach character immersion (learning to become/play characters with conviction)

  • Educate students of the history and evolution of Musical Theatre styles by exposing them to the core classic and contemporary genres with Musical Theatre - Golden Age (pre 1960), Post Classic (1960-1989) and Contemporary (1990 onwards)

  • Prepare students who wish to pursue careers in Musical Theatre

Each year in September, our Musical Theatre dancers are invited to take part in their APDA dance examination.  This is an exciting experience where dancers can challenge themselves in a supportive and encouraging environment, as well as receive feedback from experts in the industry.  Exams teach dancers motivation and give them a strong sense of achievement.  They are a fun and rewarding way to celebrate progress, while developing a love of the arts.

Musical Theatre classes are predominantly performance based, rather than technique.  It is highly recommended that dancers train (or have trained) in another form of technical dance alongside this class.
