HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO DANCE AT STRIVE?
Dance classes are offered for students aged 2 years all the way up to adults!
I'VE NEVER DANCED BEFORE...WHAT CLASS SHOULD I JOIN?
Strive has classes for all abilities. Classes are based on both ability and age. Contact us to find out which class would best suit you or your child.
CAN I JOIN HALFWAY THROUGH THE TERM?
Yes! Usually you are welcome to join a class at any point in the term (contact us to confirm). In fact, if you are wanting to enrol during the term we encourage you to do so rather than waiting for the next term to start so that you can join in with what the group is doing as quick as possible. The class teachers will help you get up to speed with the work so you’ll fit right in! The only time we are likely to say no to you joining a class is towards the end of the year when we are well into show preparation.
HOW LONG DO THE CLASSES GO FOR?
Class times vary from 30 to 90 minutes, mostly governed by class level and age. Lengths of classes are shown in the description of each class on our website.
WHAT IS YOUR TIMETABLE?
Go to the homepage, hover over the "info" button at the top of the screen and click on the "timetable" button from the dropdown menu to see our class schedule.
ARE THERE ANY BOYS IN THE CLASS?
Every class is open to both boys and girls. The numbers of each vary class to class. Our advice is to try out the class regardless of numbers of males and females and see whether they enjoy it.
DO YOU OFFER TRIALS?
Yes! You can trial any class when joining (only one trial session per dance style).
Some classes will also require a one-on-one private lesson with the teacher upon joining. These are $20 for 30 minutes and will asses the student and catch them up on what the class has been learning.
HOW DO I ENROL?
Currently enrolments are done via email.
- Contact us to confirm which class your child should be in.
- Fill out this google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfetJwe9puZavDJ38JKrCXllQteMGpThAlMhN7vbGdzQLtKAQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
- Follow the invoice sent to you via email to pay your term fees.
- Turn up to class.
WHAT IF THE CLASS I WANT TO ENROL IN IS FULL?
We will always try to find a class that works for everyone , however if your first pick is full, you can be added to the waitlist and will be the first to know if a spot opens up!
HOW DO I PAY MY FEES AND WHEN ARE THEY DUE?
Once you are enrolled, you will be emailed an invoice for the term. All fees are due before your first class and should be paid by bank transfer (account: 12-3438-0054402-00) with the student's full name as reference.
CAN I PAY CASUALLY/WEEK BY WEEK?
The learning is progressive from week to week so students are required to enrol and pay for an entire term. Weekly, fortnightly or monthly payment plans can be arranged at request but term fees are required in FULL, regardless of if the student attends all of the classes or not.
WHY DO THE PUBLIC CLASSES COST MORE THAN THE SCHOOL CLASSES?
School classes are slightly shorter than public classes and there is a higher student-teacher ratio as we take fewer students in our public classes than our school classes.
School classes also tend to be less technical in nature and have a wider range of ages and abilities within each group.
WHEN DO I HAVE TO PAY BY?
Prepayment for classes is required fully before the first class of the term. Failure to pay by the third week of the term results in the addition of a 10% late fee.
WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND?
Strive Performing Arts will refund payments made by the student if the class has been cancelled by Strive Performing Arts.
If your class doesn't quite suit you, please have a chat to us so we can find a style/level/time that works for you!
Once the term has started, refunds will be on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of Strive Performing Arts and will be for the remaining classes less a $20 administration fee.
DO I NEED A UNIFORM?
No, at Strive we understand how expensive after school activities can cost so we don't have compulsory uniforms. Strive clothing is however available for purchase.
A uniform is required for students in the competition and performance team and for students representing Strive at events.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING/WEAR TO CLASS?
All students should bring a named water bottle to class. If students are doing multiple classes in one day they are welcome to bring a small snack. NO cellphones to be used during class unless permission is granted by teacher for filming.
Acro: tight/fitting clothing (e.g. a leotard and bike shorts, leggings, crop top) must be worn for safety (so clothing doesn't catch when the teacher is spotting skills or cover the eyes when the student is upside down) and so the teacher can see the different shapes of the body during skills in order to correct the student. All jewellery (except stud earrings) should be removed.
Contemporary/lyrical: any comfortable clothing that is suitable to dance in may be worn (e.g. no skirts). Leggings are recommended for as lyrical and contemporary consist of a lot of floor work. “Toe undies” are helpful but are not essential. All jewellery (except stud earrings) should be removed.
Jazz: any comfortable clothing that is suitable to dance in may be worn (e.g. no skirts). Jazz shoes are recommended but not essential (unless competing a jazz solo then they are required). All jewellery (except stud earrings) should be removed.
Performance/Competition Team: Strive uniform as instructed by teacher at the beginning of the year. Shoe requirements also specified at the beginning of the dance year. All jewellery (except stud earrings) should be removed.
CAN I STAY AND WATCH?
No, only parents of preschoolers are allowed to stay and watch. It is disruptive to the class when Family members stay and watch and we love for parents to be surprised by what their kids have learned at the end of year shows!
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A CLASS?
Unfortunately, we don’t offer refunds unless 3 or more classes are missed due to sickness or injury and a medical certificate is provided and this is at the discretion of the director.
If you know you will be away in advance, contact us to see if you may be able to attend another class instead for that week.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A CLASS IS CANCELLED?
In the rare case of a class being cancelled, we will always organise a make up class or provide a credit to the value of the class that was cancelled.
DO YOU OFFER EXAMS?
YES, we do. Express your interest now if this sounds like you!
HOW DO I JOIN A TROUPE/COMPETITION TEAM?
If you are looking to take your dancing to the next level, consider auditioning for our competition team!
We hold open auditions to any students wishing for a chance to be part of the fun every year in term 4 and sometimes throughout the year as well. Being a part of a Strive competition team. is like being a part of a big family. We offer a positive environment for students to grow and plenty of opportunities to perform and compete at events.
WHEN IS THE END OF YEAR SHOW?
2024 Shows: Friday 6th - Sunday 8th December
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE SHOW PROCESS? ARE THERE EXTRA REHEARSALS OR FEES?
Show dances will be learned during normal class time throughout the year, particularly in terms 3 and 4.
During the final weeks before the shows your normal classes will be replaced by studio and theatre rehearsals, which is where all classes come together and run the dances in full costume like they would in the show. On the Friday before the show there will be a full dress rehearsal at the Threater.
A full rehearsal schedule will be sent out closer to the time but save the dates!
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO PERFORM AT THE END OF YEAR SHOWS?
Our shows are not compulsory but are an exciting, memorable experience for everyone involved. They are the things we encourage the students to work hard for throughout the year.
DO I NEED TO RE-ENROL AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH TERM?
No, you will be automatically re-enrolled for the following term. You just need to pay the term fees and show up to class!
You will need to re-enrol at the beginning of each year however.
Please let us know if you will not be coming back for the following term so we know not to invoice you.
WHAT IF I'M NOT PLANNING ON COMING BACK NEXT TERM?
We will be sad to see you leave but if this is your decision you must notify us to un-enrol. Your enrolment will remain active and you will continue to be charged for the classes until you do this.
