Contemporary

Contemporary is an expressive, dynamic style of dance known for its powerful exploration of emotional connection.  It blends elements of Ballet and Modern dance to explore movement in new and creative ways.

We follow the Asia Pacific Dance Association (APDA) syllabus for Contemporary classes at Strive.  Classes have a focus on dance technique, Contemporary choreography, and improvisation (free movement).

Students will develop strength, control and fluidity through Contemporary dance, while learning to tell stories and connect with the audience through their movement.  Technical aspects include; controlled leg work, torso contract-release, floor work, turns, leaps, fall and recovery.

Each year in September, our Contemporary dancers are invited to take part in their APDA dance examination.  This is an exciting experience where dancers can challenge themselves in a supportive and encouraging environment, as well as receive feedback from experts in the industry.  Exams teach dancers motivation and give them a strong sense of achievement.  They are a fun and rewarding way to celebrate progress, while developing a love of the arts.
